Momijien Restaurant at Tsukimachi Falls
This soba restaurant overlooks Tsukimachi Falls, a beautiful destination in northern Ibaraki. The soba noodles at Momijien are made from locally grown buckwheat flour. But what makes their noodles genuinely unique is the restaurant's one-of-a-kind automated sorter. This machine sorts the buckwheat seed hulls individually by color, allowing different colors of soba to be hand-kneaded. This includes the special green soba!
In addition to soba, Momijien offers home-roasted coffee and a range of snacks, including dango dumplings topped with walnut paste. There are several vegetarian options, and soba can be made vegan on request.
During the warmer months, visitors can enjoy their soba noodles on the restaurant's outside terrace. The fast-flowing waterfall produces a refreshing breeze in the summer. Arguably, the best time to visit is autumn when the maple trees around the waterfall turn a beautiful fiery red.
