Tanaka Brewery

Located in southern Ibaraki Prefecture, Tanaka Brewery utilizes the abundant natural resources of this fertile agricultural area, particularly the underground water reserves from the Tone River. Established in 1655, the brewery produces sake using traditional methods today. Tanaka Brewing is best known for its "Kimibandai" range of sake. Likewise, the daiginjo (top grade sake where 50% of the rice grain is removed in the polishing process) blend is renowned for its distinctive deep, full-bodied flavor.

Science Expo Memorial Park

This park was developed on land previously used during the 1985 World Exhibition. The grounds are worth a visit during autumn and spring.
In autumn, rows of ginkgo trees shower the ground with bright yellow leaves. Over 300 cherry trees fill the park with pale pink petals in spring.

Ushiku Daibutsu Buddha Statue

This giant Buddhist statue towers above the Ibaraki countryside. At 120 meters tall, it holds the Guinness World Record as the tallest standing bronze statue worldwide.
Visitors can go inside the Buddha and take the lift to an observation platform that offers stunning views over the Kanto Plains. The statue also contains a Buddhist Temple, a Buddhist memorial, and an area for practicing Buddhist calligraphy.
During spring, the grounds around the statue are filled with stunning pink cherry blossom trees and moss phlox (a type of blossom covering the ground), making for a breathtaking spectacle.
